Welcome to Scandinavian Venous Forum!

Societas Phlebologica Scandinavica was founded in 1963 by Gunnar Bauer and Knut Haeger and is one of the oldest phlebological societies in the world, only preceded by the French and German societies. For nearly three decades this was an exclusive society open for invited members only. With Lars Norgren as president (1990-2000) the society was modernized and opened for anyone with interest in venous diseases.

The society has held biannual meetings in Scandinavian languages alternately organised in the four Nordic countries, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, which represents a population of about 25 million people. The last ten meetings have been held in Skövde Sweden 1998, Oslo Norway 2000, Copenhagen Denmark 2002, Tampere Finland 2004 and in Malmö Sweden 2006. The language used at most meetings is Scandinavian with the exception of the Baltic Venous Forum 2004 in Tampere that was in English and thus opens for international participation. It is the intention of the current board to continue with this tradition opening also future meetings held in Finland for an international audience.

Since I became president the board has focused on further modernizing the society and to engage more members. New rules are about to be presented for approval at the next general assembly at the next meeting in Trondheim Norway in May 2008. If these are approved the name of the society will be changed into the Scandinavian Venous Forum. The society has been and will continue in being a meeting point for people with interest in venous disease in the Nordic countries.
